RENEWABLE ENERGY / SOLAR DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

The goal of the Development Associate is to identify and pursue favorable land to install utility scale solar projects in areas of interest across the United States. The Development Associate will use software tools to research and locate land opportunities, negotiate site control agreements with landowners, and perform other development tasks as needed (such as permitting, tax abatement, coordination with environmental and other consultants) to develop large scale solar projects. In addition to site acquisition and development, the Development Associate will also assist and lead responses to solar RFPs.

The Development Associate will travel frequently across the domestic United States, working with local stakeholders including landowners, local governments, economic development entities, permitting authorities, utilities, and others. Comfort with interacting with disparate groups and hearing different perspectives is essential. Service industry experience is preferred. In some cases, the Development Associate will be the primary point of contact between the project, the company, and the community. The ability to communicate professionally, respectfully, and effectively between the three is also essential.

Interested individuals with 1 to 5 years experience in the energy, development, and/or real estate industries are encouraged to apply. A key role of the Development Associate will be to supplement the development bandwidth of the team. In order to do so effectively, a strong applicant should be a quick learner, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.


Skills

  • Strong ability in Google Earth is necessary, other GIS experience is encouraged
  • Expertise/familiarity in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
  • Adaptability and comfort working in a fast-paced and unstructured environment
  • High energy level, self-motivated, and coachable
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently is required
  • Small team requires excellent personal skills; knowledge of classic rock and Chicago baseball preferred; should own at least one bicycle
  • This position is based in the Chicago headquarters; Hecate will pay relocation costs

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, statistics, physical sciences, or engineering
