Senior or Principal Civil Engineer or Manager

Hecate Energy is seeking a mid to senior-level Civil Engineer or Engineering Manager to facilitate the engineering, procurement, and construction of solar and storage projects for Hecate Energy’s 40 GW development project pipeline. This position has the option to include more general project management of solar and storage assets in construction if desired. The specific title, responsibilities, and compensation package for this position will be commensurate with experience. This position will report to the SVP of Engineering or the CTO.


  • Create internal conceptual and preliminary designs of solar and storage projects for purposes including interconnection, permitting, project sales, and construction preparation
  • Lead grading, stormwater, drainage, erosion, hydrology, and geotechnical analyses to support value-engineering  and solar array design optimization
  • Maintain Scopes of Work, manage consultants, and review deliverables for 3rd Party design packages from a 10% level to Issued For Construction (IFC) drawings and studies as well as Geotechnical, Hydrological, and Topographical Engineering Studies
  • Understand applicable codes, design standards, and technical requirements for utility scale civil and foundation design and ensure they are met throughout the engineering, procurement, and construction process
  • Conduct early-and mid-stage desktop hydrological, geotechnical, and topographical site assessment and incorporate findings in project design
  • Oversee quality of civil project designs and support resolution of challenges encountered throughout the construction process
  • This position may include occasional travel to project sites and other locations


  • 3-10+ years of civil engineering experience, EIT/PE preferred
  • Utility scale solar design experience preferred; utility scale storage experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in civil, or geotechnical engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, hydrology modeling softwares such as Flo-2D or similar, and other civil design softwares
  • Comfort bringing sense to ambiguity and driving forward one’s technical initiatives
  • Self-awareness of one’s quirks and appreciation for those of teammates
